The Unusual ...

We have a few 'unusual' features here at the Mussel and Crab

- from chairs to bottoms! here's a quick glimpse for you....

'Fanny', an extract from a café scene captured by Vincent Van Gogh, is on display in the Mussel and Crab on Sibthorpe Hill.

Featured in a scene from a café bar in the French town of Arles, Fanny's image was captured by Van Gogh in 1888. Legend has it that losers of French bowls had to open a painted window and kiss Fanny's naked form...

...At the Mussel and Crab, the painting - and the window - have been meticulously recreated in the bar by a local artist.

Although there are no French bowls at the restaurant, the honour of pouting at the lady's bottom usually falls to those who fare worst at liar (poker) dice - available from behind the bar.

Spending a penny

Other features include a unique addition to the cistern in the Gents... and an equally unusual loo seat in the Ladies!

A popular feature of the bar area are our wooden seats, carved into the shape of cupped hands -

hand shaped chairs

waiting to lure every adventurous bottom into their grainy palms.

a taste of history

Those of you who like to finish dinner with a brandy can splash out on a REAL taste of history. For at the Mussel and Crab, you can trat yourself to a shot of genuine Napoleon Brandy which dates back before the Napoleonic war!

And what good is high quality food without a splash of fine wine? You can also sample a Red or White from an award-winning Chardonnay to imports worthy of their £1,500 a bottle price tags.

One of Bruce's favourite features on the bar is an expensive device that preserves open bottles of wine or champagne, enabling you to sample by the glass rather than the just by the bottle.

Those of you who prefer a coffee to round off a meal will be intrigued by the new coffee maker in the bar, which blends and roasts its own beans, creating mouthwatering aromas throughout the bar - we also roast our own beans too!
